Photo Manipultion and ethics

Image
What are some of the main points you read about in the website above regarding manipulating images? - Adobe Photoshop, for example, has transformed photograph editing into an art. In the past, red eye reduction and photo retouching took hours. Thanks to the precision of programs like Photoshop and iPhoto, photographers can “fix” an image in a matter of seconds. - While there are rules that clearly state what a photographer can and cannot do, many feel as if the “rules” no longer apply to them, especially with the circulation of magazines like People, Star and the National Inquirer - In the past, photograph distortion took several weeks. As time progressed, photograph distortion went from taking weeks, to a few hours, to now only a few minutes. Photoshop has made it easy to doctor a photo or graphic design, with very little help What is the philosophy of newspapers like the Washington Post and the New York times regarding image manipulation? They have to be precise with their ...

Magazine Part 2

Early magazine covers that were used in the 1700s are very different from the covers that we use now. The covers had the table of contents and/or an opening title page, which is very different from now. The covers were also mostly pictures with very little writing, making it hard for the viewers to know what it was about. The poster magazine was used from the 1890s to the 1960s. The poster magazine got its name from looking like a poster. The cover included a big and bold title along with a picture. There was very little to no other writing on the cover, making viewers not know what the magazine was about. Poster magazine covers were made to showcase the image, not as much the text. Pictures Married to Type were used in the 20th century. The pictures were beautiful and shared a message and were meaningful to people. The title was big and bold, and this magazine cover actually had small text on it. The cover had small text that would describe what the magazine was about, making peop...

Favorite Magazine Cover

Set an image within a shape Brownbook consistently sets an image – whether it is a photograph or illustration – within a hexagon on a white page. This issue of Brownbook places the model strategically so that her head and toes reach the top and bottom corners of the hexagon. I really like this magazine cover for many reasons. I can feel the Mediterranean vibe that the cover has, and that is what is so unique about it. I love the shape that is involved with the picture and how much it adds to the whole cover. I also like how there is not much text, but instead the main focus is the image. The main points of the cover are in bold and big, so I easily saw the message that the cover was sending. The photo that the cover shows is also very simple but unique. I overall love this cover.

 1. Use one-point perspective I also really like the way this cover looks and how simple but unique it is. I think that if I use a simple subject with a simple background, I should be able to create a cover like this one. 2. Pretty and Sweet To use this magazine cover, the photo and background must be very simple. 3. Avoid eye contact To do this magazine cover would be quite simple and you need a simple background, doesn't have to be anything crazy. You need the model wearing whatever outfit goes with the theme of the shoot and have her look off.

Portraits and Self Portraits

1. Frame Your Subject Framing is a technique where by you draw attention to one element of an image by framing it with another element of the image. Framing gives an image depth and draws the eye to a point of interest in the image. You could do it by placing your subject in a window or doorway, have them look through a small gap or even use their hands around their face.  2. Experiment with Lighting Another element of randomness that you can introduce to your portraits is the way that you light them. There are almost unlimited possibilities when it comes to using light in portraits. Side-lighting can create mood, backlighting and silhouetting your subject to hide their features can be powerful. 3. Move Your Subject Out of their Comfort Zone I was chatting with a photographer recently who told me about a corporate portrait shoot that he had done with a business man at his home. They’d taken a lot of head and shoulder shots, shots at his desk, shots in front of framed degrees...
